The Eleven secrets are boring today. Sad.

123. Okay, I hate Twilight, that is more than slightly awesome. I think Carlisle would be an awesome character if he had been written by someone else. And Adam is full of win.

128. Why couldn't you use a font to tell us this rather than trying to hand write it?

142. How does one "hug unconditionally"? I don't get it...

169. It's hard to tell what people actually want to hear in that case. Half of the time, it's self-deprication so they can get more compliments and a self-esteem boost. Half the time it's genuine personal criticism, like in your case.

179. You're not alone. As of the first season, I definitely thought that. I'm too far behind in the second season to say about that one. But I'm not in the fandom, so I don't fear the wrath of Chuck-lovers. I don't like or dislike her particularly, unless she's being a horrible person to Olive.

169. True. I think if more people responded like it was genuine personal criticism it might be better for the world. While they might lose some friends, if they're the type who need to deprecate themselves to beg compliments and feel better, maybe they're not really worth keeping around too much? Or said friends might grow up and realize it.

I know what you mean. I have this sort of thing happen a lot with my artist and writer friends, and I usually choose what to say on a case by case basis. I always try to be helpful ("Awww, but you're so amazing and I fail" isn't exactly what I qualify as helpful), but if it's my insecure preteen friend who is terrified of posting because they're afraid they aren't very good, I'm definitely more gentle on them than I am with my other friends who are used to criticism.

This makes sense. Then again, I'm a freshman art major in college, so if I wasn't comfortable enough with myself to take it, I'd have gotten out already.

169. Yeah, it can be hard either as the artist/writer or as their friend. I know sometimes when I'm making something and I go, "Oh damn, this part sucks, doesn't it?" I want someone to tell me how to make it better, not just to say, "No, no, it's genius," because *I* know it's not (or at least I'm not happy with it). Other times--and I really try not to do this--I am fishing for compliments.

Drrrr, I wish there was less weirdness about art critique. :(
