You know, the fact that you're the second person in as many minutes to show up and post this makes me wonder why this is such a hot button issue.

Because Primeval stinks to high heaven, moreso than those other shows on a bad day times five? And I apologize for that, apparently as I was typing someone already responded.

From what I understand fandom-wise Primeval's looked down upon by Doctor Who/Torchwood fans - I known a lot of them who watched it purely because there was no Who.

Outside fandom, the BBC gets a chunk of its funding from the general public through the licensing fee, whilst ITV and Channels 4 & 5 are commerical. Beeb's been around longer and people are more attached to it.

Also, each channel has something of a rep; BBC 1 tends to have good dramas, but ITV wins hands down at anything crime related. It does however really stink at the DW rips; "Primeval" had very few good points and thus far "Demons" is dire. (unfair, perhaps to call them rips, but they're the same genre, family viewing and have been put on at the same time - they are trying to snare that audience, though thus far their attempts have been rather pathetic).

I known a lot of them who watched it purely because there was no Who.

Am I the only one who shows up to root for the dinosaurs and to be incredibly creeped out by Helen and her Cleavage of Doom?

Thanks for explaining why people have been running around correcting the channel name. As an American, I have a hard time understanding being attached to a television network, but this explanation makes it a little easier to understand.

*laughs* Most definitely not! The dinosaurs were the high point! I was holding out for Triceratops (can't you just see the bullfighting gag they'd have done?), or an Iguanadon. And I also know a fair few people who watched for the cleavage of doom (TM). Incidentally series three is being made as we type.

Glad the explanation helped (glad that it even made sense, to be honest...). I also note that in another version of this discussion further on in the ocmments someone has described ITV as "the beeb's chavvy cousin". A little unfair, I feel - they're the channel brought us Jeremy Brett as Holmes!

But yeah, BBC American seem to have bought programmes off the other networks too - I know that they show Hollyoaks and that is made for channel four over here (I can't tell you what a headspin it was seeing an advert for Torchwood in a Hollyoaks ad break. I was sure someone was trying to mess with mind...)

Are you sure whoever called it 'the beeb's chavvy cousin' wasn't mixing it up with Channel 5 (4, to a lesser extent)? ITV's got a lot of good stuff going for it that's not chavvy. D:

Demons is less a DW rip off as much as a Buffy rip off only without the snappy dialog. Rupert? Really? Out of all the names out there you are going to name the guy who watches and helps train the vampire slayer, Rupert? Why not name Luke, Duffy while you are at it?

Joss should go make Ripper then and then put it on at the same time as Demons :O *l*

I would have loved it if they named him Duffy.
