That's kind of the same level of :C-making as saying you want to be straight because you're sick of people calling you gay.

No, because you're not born fat? Although admittedly some people are born with more predisposition towards it, and some easily stay light. But it's still a MUCH more voluntary thing in the majority of cases.

That's not to say it's not a somewhat sad statement, it's just nowhere near as bad as your example.

Well, to be honest, I also want to lose weight because it's just that--weighing me down. I feel like crap. I want to feel good about myself. But the desire to stop hearing ridicule from others was the driving force behind my initial crusade to lose weight.

It's true that I used to overeat, but there's also a multitude of factors influencing that. I'm predisposed to gaining weight because both of my parents have a history of an underactive thyroid and slow metabolism. I used to overeat because I was heavily depressed and emotionally unstable. It was kind of a vicious cycle between eating because I was unhappy and being unhappy because I ate.

Nah, not yet. But it's pretty widely accepted that they are or will end up together. (for the most part)

OP here. The reason there are things wrong with this secret is probably that I wrote it, and I'm really awful at expressing nuanced ideas in a brief format, especially when frustrated. Thanks for looking past the faults (either with the way the secret is expressed or my own worldview) to see the underlying point.
