It means that unless an American viewer understands the fine distinctions of British Television Production, they will probably think it's a BBC show. Says BBC right on the cable listings. Schedule is listed on the BBCamerica website. Assuming it's a BBC production is not a sign of moral failure or dangerous criminal tendencies. And if the OP is like me, they turned off the first episode long before the ITV logo came up at the end.

I am American and have watched Primeval on BBC America, but since I'm not an idiot I didn't assume that it was made by the BBC just because it aired on BBCA. Yes, the schedule is listed on the BBC America website because it AIRS ON BBC AMERICA, not because it was made by the BBC.

Plenty of cable channels (not just BBCA) show programs not originally produced for their network.

I'm with you, anon. I assumed it was BBC when I first saw it, because, hey, it was on BBCA, and the BBC logo was all over EVERYTHING on that channel. Sure, I found out it wasn't through research on the show, but it's still easy to think it's BBC. It's not a huge deal that the OP made the mistake.

I think you may have misinterpreted me. I didn't mean that it was perfectly okay to think that because a show is on BBC, it is owned by BBC. My point was more 'I can understand how one can make the mistake, and all proper reaction to someone doing so is to correct them, not get all up in arms about it'. I could have worded it better, really.

It does not take special knowledge of British TV to understand that cable networks often air shows that weren't made by that network.
