112. It...can't be ebcause they only have 15 icon slots and don't know which one to remove yet? (Cheap poster has cheap LJ account)

118. Dude.
That's cool. I don't have any idea how the hell you'd turn it into a story and retain that coolness, but the concept is seriously neat.

120. ...This might be a stupid question, but WTF does "showing your privlege" even mean? I've never heard the term before.

126. Eh, I've seen weirder. Spend some time in the Yu-Gi-Oh fandom and Danny/Phantom will seem perfectly normal.

131. Hey, at least they've got a modivation. Sometimes "I want to be healthy" isn't enough for people, they need an extra push. Heck, I needed a video game. ("My Weight Loss Coach" for the DS. It's remarkably effective)

132. I still say that, for name confusions, Hunter X Hunter wins hands down. Not only is there a Light/Raito (minor character) that people squabble over, but most of the major characters names are completely made up, so there's like, five million different ways to spell each one.

166. (blink blink) They're different? Like, besides the sex part. The emotions in the relationships are supposed to be different? How come nobody ever told me?

"Showing your privilege" is an idiom which crops up a lot in discussions on racism, sexism, ablism, and various other -isms. Privilege, put most simply, is the freedom people who are not "X" have to be blind to what people who are "X" have to put up with.

"Showing your privilege" usually means saying or doing something which demonstrates that you've never had to deal with, understand, or even think about prejudices which other people cannot escape. All of us have some kind of privilege - whether its the privilege of not having to worry about wheelchair access to public buildings, or the privilege of seeing people who look and sound like us on TV, or whatever else. Can't avoid having privilege, but one can avoid showing it through critical thought and empathy.

Here're a few links to people who've said it better than I could which might be of help to you. :)

Should have let you answer that question!

Re: 120,

(Anonymous) 2009-01-12 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
The privilege it refers to is the privilege of not having to deal with certain things--for instance, white privilege refers to, among other things, the privilege of having lots of heroes of your race represented in the media, the privilege of not having to really think about race at all. So when somebody says "your privilege is showing" it generally means they're being ignorant of the things other people have to deal with. Usually it shows you're not even aware of the advantages you were born into having.

That's not a very good explanation, but hopefully it made a little sense.
