131. I believe that "thinspiration" is actually a pro-ana term...? I thought the same thing for a long time -- I was all "wait...! How is that a bad thing!"

But at the same time, I don't know that everyone who uses the term even knows the associations, so it's hard to tell what they mean.

IAWTC. To me, "thinspiration" never comes across as "I'm a person who wants to lose weight and looks at the healthy eating and exercise habits of (Character A/Celebrity B/whomever) as my inspiration!" It says, "I wanna be as stick thin as THIS person!"

If people are trying to use "thinspiration" as a portmanteau word to mean "my inspiration for getting thin" (and hopefully in a healthy way, not via anorexia or bulimia), then fine, but I don't think the word's moved out of its pro-ana origins just yet. Besides, what good is a "thinspiration" if you have only a character and nothing else to go by-- how they got thin or stay thin, or what YOU'RE going to do to achieve a similar (but healthy for your body) look? It's like, "are we supposed to be impressed with how waif-like you're aspiring to be?" I never get those secrets. (Of course, it'd be different if people said "Angelina Jolie is my thinspiration" or something, because she works out all the damn time -her trainer and his routines are in plenty of magazines and on health/beauty sites- and IT SHOWS. Same goes for a lot of other celebs, but manga characters? Er...)
