Re: CGI or traditional effects?

When CGI is used right it can be good (like in the Lord of the Rings trilogy) - but I think more often than not it gets over used to a point where a lot of the affects gets lost in itself and makes a pretty forgettable impression on the audience.

Whereas traditional effects can be amazing, of course depending on quality/budget - but for instance the animatronics & puppetry in films like Jurassic Park and Gremlins are just more memorable and part of the movie's world.

The last time I saw Jurassic Park a few years ago, I thought the occasional cgi used held up fairly well - but did think it probably won’t age as well as the animatronics.
