Eh, for me CGI looks too smooth and fake even when done well.

I bet you watch movies with A LOT of good CGI but don't even realize it.

I don't go to the movies so I've been watching movies on my old 36" tv (it was largescreen when we bought it in 2010 and now it's "old" and "small") for many years. just got a 55", watched some movies from the last 10 years. holy shit can you tell CGI easily. like. seriously, technology has made it to where it's all too obvious that all the backgrounds and blurry action shots are CGI and now I'm genuinely disappointed. I expected more good matte paintings or live backgrounds but apparently not.
