(Anonymous) 2021-01-06 03:59 am (UTC)(link)This isn't a terrible typeface, it's just that its very basic. Basic isn't wrong, necessarily, but why be basic when you can be better? With type, "better" usually means a final piece that's got consistent letter shapes, is easy to read either small or large (depending on application), has distinct letters (so avoids l's that look like I's!) and is all around just that little bit more refined.
So, if I were to look for a typeface suited to OP's image and that matched the current font's ornamentation, detail, and flair, I might look to fonts like these:
https://klim.co.nz/collections/domaine/
https://www.typography.com/fonts/historical-allsorts/overview
https://lettersfromsweden.se/font/eksell-display/
https://houseind.com/hi/blaktur
https://houseind.com/hi/holiday
High personality, but more refined and precise. The details tell us that just a that little bit of extra skill went into these typefaces.
Now, of course all typefaces have their place and purpose. (Even comic sans is well-placed in children's spaces. But it suffers from the same issue: there are better childish typefaces!) Every typeface brings its own personality to the game, and minute differences can change everything. So you may look at my picks and think "those are nothing like the one OP picked!" and you would be as right as me saying "actually there are a lot of key similarities that make them good substitutes!" It's all interpretive and situational. And that's honestly why type is so fun to play with.
So yeah! OPs pick isn't bad, it's just, ya know, a Microsoft default. And there's nothing more tried and true than one designer busting up another for using comic sans (and adjacent) typefaces :P
