It's a regency AU: regency era minus the racism. The king married a black woman and it ended racism towards black people, apparently? *violent eyeroll* I'm only four episodes in, so idk if that aspect of the universe will be more developed over time.

I wish you weren't frothing at the mouth over this, because I actually agree with you that it's not ideal.

I was fine with it being an AU where racism didn't exist. But when they tried to actually explain the lack of racism with, "Oh, well, the king married a black woman, so now, like flipping a switch, white-on-black racism is all but gone" I was like, "Are you fucking serious rn?"

That is about the level of subtlety and conceptual complexity you can expect from the show in general, just FYI. It is not without its positive qualities, but overall, yeah, it's a hot mess imo.

It's Regency AU.

This show looks like a hot mess.

To those that have seen this show, did you enjoy it? I've been meaning to get around to it.

If you like salacious fluff that kind of aspires to have Something To Say but is just way too salaciously fluffy and obvious to actually do a good job saying it...it's not bad?

There's just a LOT of "Don't think about it, just go with it," storytelling, and that kind of puts me off because I hate that stuff. But it's a fun, sexy romp, if you're into predominantly heterosexual regency era sexy romps.

I'm 6 episodes in and I'm having a fun time? I'm having to switch off the critical part of my brain a lot and replace it with the popcorn part, but it's fun and bright and i like (most of) the characters.

It's tropey and fun and has lots of sex later on but the depicted scene and the fallout/non fall out kinda ruined daphnes plot for me. meh.
fun way to pass a day or two if you're able to overlook all the inaccuracies. (yeah i know it's a fantasy regency au, but come on, at least put a chemise under the corsets ffs)
