I'm kinda freaking out here

(Anonymous) 2021-01-09 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've made dark humor jokes in the past before like this and I've always thought of it as me coping and maybe opening up about what I'm feeling as a person going through similar suicidal feelings. However, people would more than likely view this offensively? I want to avoid offending people with my own mental health displays, and would like some advice on this.

You're not doing anything wrong

Literally everyone ITT is on Mark Hamill's side. I don't think there's a single post agreeing with the OP. So nah, I think the percentage of people you might offend with something like that is extremely small.

I think the secret poster might be a twelve-year-old.

You're fine. It's a very well-known coping mechanism. Other people who are also depressed and suicidal may or may not personally appreciate it, but using gallows humour to cope with your own mental health is not actually problematic. Secret OP is just so far up their own ass they're at risk of winking out of existence entirely.

You're fine, don't worry. There's nothing wrong at all with what MH said. OP is freaking out for personal reasons of their own, obviously, and that's not his problem or yours.

Some people will have a bad reaction to literally anything that can be said online. You're not responsible for that. I'm glad you want to be responsible and try not to hurt people - but it's literally impossible to exist online without upsetting someone eventually. All you can do is judge the criticism you get on its own merits. Some will be valid and merit making changes, some (like this) will be complete bullshit.
