I remember the secret from few days ago where someone said they got no reviews on their well-done stories, so they were trying/going to try to write a shitty cliched story to post under a different user name. I'm tempted to do that, just write the worst mad-libbed story in the history of fandom, with the crappiest plot, and wait for my mailbox to get filled up with praises, but I think that would be ultimately too depressing.

I've wanted to do that. I think it'd be hilarious almost. Plus, honestly, a little fun. Thinking of the worst things you can and getting praise for it.

I've come to the conclusion that any summary or title that has the word "secret" in it, will ultimately be reviewed. Millions of reviews if said secret turns out to be a baby. Even more reviews if you can't decide on a tense for your story, and if you are unable to tell the difference between your and you're (or any other homonyms).

Plus, I'm convinced I know the perfect formula to get 100+ reviews on FFN, and I'd be so upset if I'm right that I'd probably pull all my other, "serious" stories off that site.

I've noticed if something is 'forbidden' it works. Like human/mermaid. Human/vampire. Those sort of things. But not incest, since that's a major squick for a lot of people.

Do you care to divulge on this perfect formula? I am really curious about what you think.

"Forbidden Secret" could be the title of a fic to dethrone My Immortal... just saying.

The formula involves multi-chapter WIPs, with at least thirty chapters and irregular posting (i.e., two chapters on same day, then no chapters for like a week, then back to a random interval that will be dictated by a fictitious school or work schedule). Babies. Bad enough formatting and grammar that nice people will feel compelled to leave concrit to "inform" you, but not too bad that it'll keep average readers from reading it. Open endings with "will they? won't they?" paradoxes. Also, talking about how your muse is on hold because your neighbor's dog's cousin's owner has a crush on you and you don't know how to deal also seems to generate plenty of sympathetic reviews.

But you are onto something. Which is scary. I read one fic (which was a multi-chapter WIP) where they had that irregular posting. Then suddenly, on one chapter, they said "I'm sorry that this is so late. I would have posted yesterday, but the dog I had for eight years got killed yesterday :(". Next chapter? Tons of reviews. And the cliffhangers? Yep. They get you the reviews as well.

I can think of something that might be better and has bonus of being mean to batshit insane shippers

Take the ship with the most batshit insane fans and write a fic with the summary "Character A reveals his/her feelings to Character B, can true love conquer (sp?) all?"
The answer is no because after Character A reveals his/her feelings to Char B, they turn around and tell them that they're already with Character C.

Cue lot of whining from butthurt fans
