105. I don't get this theory that they've all been sent by one "Butthurt Anon". I see people expressing this view every time there's a Hetalia secret, but it's clear from the amount of wank surrounding Hetalia that a lot of people have problems with either the fandom or the comic (for whatever reasons). And that there are enough wankers on both sides which would warrant the wish to keep one's opinions secret. Though I will agree that a few secrets could have been wank-bait.

Hey there! I spend a disproportionate amount of time here, considering how much I actually contribute to fandom (zilch).

Pfft, dooooon't watch the show until the end! Drop it at ep 18 or so. XD Otherwise that's a special kind of trauma nobody needs.

But you should definitely read (or at least try reading) the manga, because it's much more complete, in-depth and interesting than the show. (Still unfinished, though. But you definitely get a really good climactic point which you can treat as the end, if you want. ^_^) Raimei gets a lot more focus, too.

I'll think about it! But my problem is that I love every character... except for Miharu and Yoite. And I actually like Miharu and Yoite when they're interacting with other characters, but not when they're going down Emo River. I hear that the mangaka tends to fangirl a ship she created, so that doesn't encourage me to check the series out.

Hmmm. Well, having been passionately averse (as in horrified) to the idea of Miharu and Yoite together in the beginning, and then slightly bored by them for a while after that (I'm ashamed to admit it, as I ship them hugely, but it's true), I think I know where you're coming from. It's definitely difficult to have too much fun with them as a ship since they're so bogged down in the hopelessness of the series' premise, but I think they definitely grow on you. And I won't try to mislead you; Nabari no Ou is truly a story about Miharu and Yoite. As a unit. And yeah, Kamatani probably does ship it. But at the same time, I don't think her handling of the narrative digresses into fangirly glee or inanity (to give, for an example, Inuyasha). Most of it is a fairly objective character study, and it poses some really interesting questions. (The manga is...extremely philosophical. Particularly as compared with the anime. *cough*)

So, yeah, come prepared to wade across Emo River in parts. But with a good pair of rubber boots, you should be fine. (Also I might mention that the anime kind of teeters this dangerous line between overdramatizing their characters and playing them completely flat, possibly because it couldn't get a good feel for their relationship? But that might account for why their interactions with the others were more interesting. Unless you're thinking specifically of Yoite and Yukimi, which is just...its own level of awesome.)

Thanks for the recommendation, but I've seen enough of Nabari no Ou, both manga and tv series, to know that it's really, really not my cup of tea. I don't have a lot of patience for romance, especially when the romance is between a pairing that sorta comes out of nowhere and one that I have no investment towards. Miharu and Yoite are the only cast-members I don't like, and I find the pairing itself really self-involved, naval-gazing, and, most importantly, uninteresting.

As I've said before, once two friends of mine invited me over to get drunk (first and only time I let THAT happen anywhere away from home). I don't remember much about that night, but I do remember a moment where they were clinging to each other and crying.

"You don't understand this, you can't," said one. "You can't understand this love... between us! It's REAL!"

THAT'S like reading Nabari no Ou, to me.

Which is sad, since I first got into the show because I thought the OP was freaking awesome. It had nice art, a variety of characters, and a SAMURAI GIRL! But maybe I'm taking her characters more seriously than the mangaka is. Still, I get into works mostly because I love the characters. And if I'm actively frustrated by the two main ones in a series, I really don't think I could endure it.
