n!s 1. Wow. That is... that is wild. I can't unsee Scylar. Or Simbahinder. It just... I don't... I don't even know.

n!s 2. I do believe I read she is also a complete and utter plagiarized character from elsewhere. Yet another obstacle one must overcome in order to like her.

n!f. Was it a monkey he dressed up in Kamina-clothes and taught to throw Twilight-books at people who dressed up like the Joker, who in these adventures taught all the countries of the worlds to get along and that raping each other is not cool but very disrespectful? Because I would consider that a touching story. I truly would.

t!b 1. ... And I read it BECAUSE of the trippy fighting. I do acknowledge it is not very good, but fuck it, I get to see a kangaroo fight a giant snake while two utterly totally serious biznezz badasses fight each other with hedgehugs and slugs. It's like, I can't bring myself to get upset over strange time-travel plots when that kind of shit be goin' down.

102. ... I need links to these trailers. And to know if it actually will involve fighting monsters and aliens.

105. I'm just here to say that I enjoy intelligent and levelheaded discourse in subjects that usually devolve into ranting and screaming. Hence, I enjoy this secret.

106. ... Dammit just spoilered myself.

108. Is that an animated film made to look like a puppet-show?

117. You and quite a few others. All I'm saying is that if he designed fashion, there would not be the most Awesome Shinji ever to redeem the name after NGE-Shinji. Jus' saying.

128. ... Try as I might I can't remember a single clip from that bizarre, bizarre show of his, or their plotline. When I try my mind just shuts down and refuses to go back there. I think he's... good at being bizarre, but not very memorable beyond that.

129. Oh it's that... football-in-space cartoon. I saw an episode when they went up against a team of aliens who were all tall, muscular females. I think I am a little bit embarrased by the fact I want to see more of it just because of that first impression. It was pretty hot though.

133. Sometimes, a design can just hook you. This is one of those cases. I would watch a movie featuring that man's mustache in the main role, oh yes.

135. I need to know the name of her canon now. Because if only from that picture, I do so agree with you.

142. I hope you can kick that habit. Repression never leads to good things, and the more you have to fansquee about, the better I say!

129 OP here

The female team are all Rykers, and their special ability is Metal Cry, I think. Physically, they're one of the strongest teams in the League, and they definitely kick crazy amounts of ass.

And the actual protagonists of the show are cool too. Watch more! *encourages!*

I do admit, it seemed unusually interesting, for a western animation (Good God I know how pretentious that sounds, but when the majority of western animation feels like it's all episodic "plot, what is plot and why do we require it when we can have as many gags a minute as possible"...). I will try to catch it when it airs on Jetix then!

THANK YOU.

And yes, I have a lot of friends who watch anime but react with absolute horror when I mention that I'm watching a French animated show. It hasn't actually helped my case to argue that it's about football and Prince of Tennis is a show about tennis, though I'm still not sure why.

Full disclosure: it's a low-budget show, so they re-use some clips a bit, but apart from that, yes, it's good. It has plots that span each season, in addition to mini-plots that are character-specific and of course, the constant struggle of the Snow Kids to win the Galactik Cup.

At first I thought "Well it is a show that involves sci-fi with football, whereas Prince of Tennis is relatively grounded in just plain Tennis, and hence they could see PoT as being more 'serious' sports without relying on crazy gimmicks to keep people hooked resulting in lower quality"... and then I remembered that Inui annihilated the dinosaurs.

And hey, you may consider that big, epic plots surrounding a simple ballgame may be a little eyebrow-raising, but the way some manga play up the stakes during their matches... I mean, "children's card games" haven't become a beloved ironic phrase for nothing, 's all I'm saying.

Re: 129 OP here

(Anonymous) 2009-01-12 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never watched Prince of Tennis but if we're talking REAL dinosaurs here, I'm now curious about that.

The plot makes sense... IN AMERICA. Besides, YGO was based on the theory that magic is what makes the games so important where the Flux is actually used for weapons, and was banned because it was so powerful, which people know. And even in our world, football has a pretty dedicated following, so it's less of a stretch to believe that than to believe that babies are born with tri-colored hair?

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2009-01-12 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, not REAL dinosaurs, but the little... I don't know how to describe it, 'metaphors' they used to portray the power of the protagonists attacks could at times be just a little bit overdone. Such as in one case, where one of the protagonists hits the ball so hard, the one on the receiving end get's a vision of a comet striking the earth and annihilating the dinosaurs. It was amusingly overblown, so to speak.

Metal Gear Cry?!?

In our hearts and hopefully in someone's fan-art, that monkey's adventure happened somewhere. We can always find solace in that knowledge.
