117 - I think he's good at both. Though the manga could use more Nemu. :3

147 - I disagree. Creating fanart takes quite a bit of work most of the time--is it really asking so much to be asked for permission/given credit when it's taken for icons? And asking for a donation is not some kind of heinous crime, if their work is being hosted on their own site--I don't believe those are free to maintain, so a few donations from appreciative people here and there help keep their work up on their website for everyone to see, critique and enjoy.

Honestly, when you walk through Chinatown and see someone's NaruHina fanart blown up into a wallscroll with their watermark still on it for about 15-20 dollars, and you know the artist isn't getting paid shit for it because it was STOLEN--yeah, I'm gonna sympathize with the artists.

165 - I like all of them, but I do want Nill to have a happy ending more than anyone. Haine comes next. Double points if their happy ending is together. XD

I totally agree. I'm not much of an artist, but I would be upset if I saw something I worked hard to create being used without credit by someone else. It's not hard to tag icons with "Made by so-and-so" or even "Art from DeviantART" or something.

I would be just as upset if I saw any of my writing being published by someone else. =]

Exactly--whether or not subject was created by you, you put a lot of effort into creating an image either by drawing, painting, crafting, or writing--that's something that deserves credit. You're not gleaning royalties from the work every time it's aired or official merchandise is bought--you're getting credit from people who appreciate your work in creating something that appeals to them because the official product may or may not have anything that caters to that specific interest.

Really, I don't think it's too much to ask for credit so that if someone else sees it and likes it, they can google the name and find more of their work.

It's not hard to credit someone. I mean, seriously. And if the (fan)art isn't yours, you could just say, "Please contact me if this is yours". I like making icons, but I like to use screencaps I took myself, or photographs I took myself. Official art scans, et cetera. I would feel guilty for using something that someone else worked hard to make. Especially if I couldn't remember who made it.

At the UK conventions I go to, SFB and Wolf cons there's this lady who does this, well not wallscrolls but she sells prints of wallpapers and fanart she STEALS (and yes IT IS stealing Wendy if you ever read this) off the internet. I mentioned it on the Wolf forum after the last Pegasus con I went to and the admin said to report any such activity to the con organisers. Well P4 is on soon and I'll be doing just that

by this reasoning, it would be totally acceptable to ask for donations for any fan-related site posting popular fanfiction, right?

And doujinshi, fansubs, etc. Believe me, this is not an unheard of concept.
