Thanks - I work in IT myself (though more coding-oriented than hardware), my brother also works in IT, and two friends saw my rant about it on FB and gave me suggestions... and nothing worked. No idea whatsoever why it's doing this.

Then I totally stumbled across something that seems to have corrected things, or maybe it was just coincidence. Hoping the nightmare is over. ;)
