Even before I knew what fandom was, my sister and I quoted Walter all the time (and still called him "Chevron Guy" even after we learned his name - which I believe the actual name was also a fan invention?) because he's just such an important yet mundane feature of so many episodes.

I'm not surprised the actor embraced it and is really cool about it. From what little I'd seen of him in cast interviews etc he seemed nice.

I think the Col. said "airman" and it sounded like "Harriman" and so they named the character "Walter Harriman" which I think is cool af.

I love stories like this because it just goes to show that things developed organically even before the aspects of life now that mean the Internet can dissect every little thing and make suggestions or comments.

I mean, sometimes it's nice when fandom influences things but other times I'm grateful for the shows that got to exist in a time before the level of scrutiny or commentary there is now.

Which chevron guy? Aren't there two? Walter and the black-haired dude that was only there for a couple of episodes in one of the early seasons?

I'm really happy to hear that, I loved Walter, he is a great supporting character. Glad to hear the actor is awesome too!

Just wanted to add, that one of his stories was about the audition for SG1. Apparently he nailed it by reading out the lines in a series of increasingly silly voices.

We always called him "Sergeant Chevron Guy" and loved him to pieces. I'd love to meet him!

I think he did a dvd audio commentary for an episode once and he was hilarious. Like, they clearly kept this guy around because he is just fun to be around.
