This. I've been a Star Wars fan since the 80s and it absolutely baffles me how many people seem to be expecting Star Wars to be anything other than not-too-deep, rolicking fun. Star Wars was NEVER deep. It was NEVER heavy or super serious and it was never meant to be. It was a bunch of action/adventure films and it succeeded in being that.

Yeah, this. I went into the Mandalorian with the mindset of watching an old Western set IN SPACE (as my sister described it to me), and...I really super enjoyed it as a result. A lot more than I've enjoyed any Star Wars things since I saw the original trilogy when it was rereleased when I was in third grade. There's stuff there that could potentially be very Deep and Serious, but I'd rather fanficcers pick up those threads than see the writers try to hash them out in the show itself. Leave the show as the Adventures of Unwilling Space Cowboy Dad and I'll be perfectly happy.

Okay, I think this is the take I'll walk in on it with. And I think I will walk away pleased. Haven't watched yet but this sounds hella cute.

I agree. Star Wars is fun adventure plus a take on the mytharc that Lucas was big on. That's all it is. There is nothing deep about it or serious. And I love that about it. It is the world created I love and the characters and the adventures they have. I'm not looking for anything deep from it. I think it is possible to have bad Star Wars (Rise of Skywalker is in my opinion bad Star Wars even if parts of it are good). But there is nothing deep about what Star Wars is.
