That's not because women are all trying to imitate Buffy (or Anne Rice, or LKH, or whoever). It's because publishers have decided that this is women's Urban Fantasy and that is men's Urban Fantasy, and are a lot less likely to publish a woman - or someone writing with a feminine pen name, at any rate - who doesn't do the thinly veiled romance novel thing. It's all about the branding.

EDIT: Or his. Or theirs. Usually if you're getting a "I hate that women did this" comment out of fandom, it's coming from a woman. But I'm making assumptions, and you know what they say about those ;P
