Haven’t read that, but I did like London Falling by Paul Cornell. Maybe there’s something about London.

Yeah, there's some similarities, but "Rivers of London" is a lot lighter in tone - there's more humour and a lot more hope.

I think the fact they're both first published in the UK might be part of it, though - possibly publishers had fewer preconceptions about what Urban Fantasy looks like?
