It's totally not because we're tried of a dead trend in the English language to insult the minority-du-jour by using their label against them. It must be because we're butthurt. You can argue different definitions all you want, but that doesn't change the original intention of that definition and how it can hurt members of that minority.

That's great that you're not offended. I'm the minority-du-jour as well, but I do get annoyed if not offended when people use "That's so gay" around me when they know about me and who I am. And I take a page from the soft version of the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis on language and culture. Words are a way of framing the world around us. They are not just empty symbols; they have meaning, impact, effect.

Fuck that guy. Yes, I know he was being a troll for his comment of "special people." That's so euphemistic; it's almost offensive in itself. Honestly, I don't need to grow a skin, thanks. Maybe you need to recognize that not everyone has the same perspective as you. And if the context of "brown" is offensive, yes, you should say something.

I do think words hold meaning, but I believe one should be careful about how one takes other people's words--- sometimes you just don't know in what context it is being used.

Woah, didn't mean for it be offensive, but it did come out that way, huh? I do realize people don't have the same perspective as me (I'm a foreigner in the US--- my views hardly match up to others here). I would reply with some witty counter argument, but I just got done with my lab and my brain is dead. I don't feel like arguing on the internet tonight, and as a debater, I know when I am debating a losing view due to difference of opinion.
