Oh geeze, poor Relena. So she liked pink and pacifism? She also shot a corsage off a woman who could probably kill her with a pair of horned-rims, but do people give her credit for that?

Why would they do that when they could vilify her for being somewhat naive and starry-eyed?

It saddens me that either I know the fic you're thinking of or there's more than one.

What's sad is that I'm thinking of two.

OH GUNDAM WING FANDOM. Why must you fail so, so hard?

It was my first fandom, too! THANK GOD it caused me to overdose on "girls are ICKY and MEAN" so I was pretty much bored by that attitude when I was fifteen.

Six months in that fandom cured me, man. I wasn't down with all the female characters in all of my later fandoms, but I've had no virulent hatred since.

Sometimes I don't like characters, but I find that I dislike as many male characters as much as female (if not more, since there's generally more male characters in a given work), and also I tend to be more invested in the victories and growth of female characters.

But I don't invest energy into crazy HAAATE, and I get rather meta when it comes to gender and fandom. I try not to get too judgmental, because I was there once, but its pervasiveness is very frustrating.

That said, I would pay money to smack Tessarosa from Full Metal Panic across the mouth, but she's the only one.
