142. I like manga so much better than American comic books. Seriously. How can you even keep track of all the fucking retcons? Plus, it takes me longer to earn the money to buy one than it does to read one. When I discovered I could get a telephone-book sized manga magazine full of manga for the price of one US comic book...well, I only buy graphic novel collections now.
144. You seem to be conflating "not sexist" with "Kinsey 3 or higher". Yes, most women are more interested in male characters in terms of shipping and pairing and porn. The reverse is true in male dominated fandom. There is a reason some very heterosexual men prefer fake-lesbian porn and some very heterosexual women prefer yaoi. This does not make them horrible sexists. The reasons for this should not be a mystery and making moral judgements about them is useless.
152. The new team is fine. What I miss is House being wrong sometimes, and not actually trying to destroy every human relationship everyone around him dares to have. Chase, 13, Kutner, Taub >>> Cameron and Foreman. Also, I really really miss Amber.

175. Wasn't he just AWESOME? I love those movies. I love those books. (S!: If you call yourself a Pullman fan and have never read Sally Lockhart...maybe I judge you a little...) Everyone who hates him can STFU especially the people who wanted the next Doctor to be a female. Any race would be TOTALLY FINE, but every Gallifreyan we have ever seen regenerated has regenerated into the same gender, including the women. Having the Doctor be female would be like having Romana be male. WEIRD.

185. One of my closer friends is a graduate student in Byzantine history and she writes awesome Hetalia fic set in the past, distant and recent. I have never read the manga and it doesn't grab me, but I think anything (including a manga about 9/11) can be done well. The problem with recent events is that they are too easy to do BADLY. World War II and the Holocaust have been used as the backdrop for hundreds and thousands of novels and movies. Really, you can write about them. If it's done badly, then of course it's likely to be offensive. But it's not impossible to do it well. And some people need to write about things like WWII and 9/11, too.

You can do it well or badly. If you say it has to be serious, then you're saying they shouldn't have made Hogan's Heroes (and maybe they shouldn't have, I don't think it's very good--but it doesn't seem to have offended tons of people in its time).
The thing is, I can't get behind saying that art that offends people is always morally wrong to make. I also think we would get further with bad artists if we critiqued the way their art is bad than simply saying "this hurts me" because the sad truth is, you are not entitled never to see, read or hear anything that makes you feel bad. Sometimes things that make you feel bad are meant to make you think. Sometimes they're just bad. Sometimes they're hateful; if you really think something is hateful, that's a valid critique (although if it is genuinely meant to be hateful, the person that made it probably doesn't care). At the same time, you know, there are people out there who think that if a shape-shifting magical horse decides to walk around pretending to be a black guy because he, with little real knowledge of what it's like to live in the human world as anything other than a predator that kills humans, thinks dark skin is pretty, everything that happens to that character is symbolically being done to African-Americans as a whole by the author, and they sure have the right to think that, and I sure have the right to disagree with it.
