I agree with this secret. I had no idea what Hetalia was, and when I checked it out, I was....blown away. As a history major, I couldn't understand how people could find it "cute" and "shippy". WWII is no laughing matter, folks.
Now, if it was the American Revolution with the States as Characters...
Oh wait. that's 1776.

Probably nothing, as the series rarely even portrays battles of any kind, let alone major tragedy.

185. And as a history major, I think Hetalia's fucking hilarious. And sometimes cute. As for WWII not being a laughing matter...well, there are many authors, playwrights, artists, and film directors who would love to have a word with you.

It's entirely possible to find the situations and circumstances of events humorous without downplaying or insulting those who were affected by them. It's possible still when you're perfectly aware of the historical context of said situations.

Sometimes using humor to explore tragedy is the way that many people prefer to do it. My fellow history majors and professors frequently make off-color, offensive jokes that are related to historical events and even historical tragedies. It's an easy way to put events in a different perspective when you spend most of your time caught up in the severity of them. And that's why I like Hetalia: it gives me a break from what I normally devote my studies and extra time to (military history). It doesn't mean that I'm insensitive or unaware. I'm all too aware, and that's why I prefer to laugh rather than cry, even at a silly webcomic.
