I can't say I cringe super hard but maybe that's because I'm hanging out with the right people. When someone I know well does it, I get that it's half-snarky/sarcastic/just playing a joke on themselves and don't take it super hard, actually I do that too once in a blue moon. But when it's serious, eh, I don't know. I do feel slightly "are you, perhaps, 15?" about it. Like they're 15 and going through some kind of "I should behave like every Queer Indie Comic MC ever!" phase.
