I repeat, do you think this about sexual orientations other than your own? Saying that "it's just a phase" is different from saying you just can't understand what feeling that way is like (which is perfectly understandable).

I don't think of that word in any other connotation than vegetation. I'm not saying you're wrong or that I'm right. I'm saying that I don't see it, and I fully believe that at some point, things will change for people claiming to be asexual. Perhaps I'm wrong, perhaps you're right. There is just not enough research either way to prove either of us right or wrong.

There is no litmus test to determine if someone is asexual. Asexuality is like any other identity- at its core, it’s just a word that people use to help figure themselves out. If at any point someone finds the word asexual useful to describe themselves, we encourage them to use it for as long as it makes sense to do so.

That's from that site, and there's nothing in that statement that I disagree with. It's just a word people use, because they can't come up with anything better, imo.

Yeah, the term is misleading compared to the its context in reproduction--it doesn't bother me personally, but you're probably right in that a better term is needed.

I understand that, and although I replied to the secret, I made sure to generalize my issues as much as possible, so as to not just attack the OP. For all I know, he or she might be a sixty year old who has spent the last fifty years dealing with "asexuality", and I could be completely wrong. But for the most part, people who send in secrets are younger than that, usually younger than me, and I think that with age comes more experience and likely a change in what they consider to be their sexual orientation.

But who knows? OP might be the one to prove asexuality, lol, and then I'll just have to eat my words.

Go trying reading some asexual communities on lj - there's people in there in their 30s and 40s, and apparently, they haven't grown out of it yet. I suspect they'd tell you to go to hell. I sure would.
