I can relate on two levels- one is that Angel is an amazing show. I was a big Buffy fan back in the day (I'll date myself a little by revealing that I watched it from the series premiere on) and Angel's character on the show was one of my least favorites. I didn't dislike him, but I wasn't particularly invested in him and I didn't follow David Boreanaz to Angel initially. When I finally got around to watching it I really wished I'd done it much sooner. It's just that consistently good. I'd take a bullet for this show.

The second relatable point- Growing up and beyond, most people don't really get obsessing over a show or a film to the degree that fandom folk do. I found myself feigning crushes on actors and musicians only to make my hobby easier to understand for the average joe, especially in my younger years where I endeavored not to make any waves or stand out too much. Looking at it now, I feel like it's simply a case of different strokes/different folks. Consuming entertainment in very different ways. I know I've been in the reverse situation, where someone professed to be a big fan of a show I really liked, only to find out they were madly in love with one of the lead actors and could barely articulate what the show was even about. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
