You did say "Pretty pathetic" WRT the girl who GASP turned down your brother. Not much tongue in cheek affection to be found in that phrase. This namby pamby backpedalling is painful to watch; either admit that "pathetic" is a harsh way to judge someone you know nothing about (other than the fact that they OMG TURNED DOWN YOUR AWESOME BROTHER!!!!) or just woman up and say "yeah, I think people like that are pathetic, even some of my friends".

You're looking at the wrong phrase. Hell, you're looking at the wrong post. There was no affection meant there. I'm not backpedaling. And I'm happy to "woman up" and say YES. People like that are pathetic.

Worse, people like you who don't like what I say and try to nitpick prose over it because you don't have an adequate response? Pathetic.

For Christ's sake pick an opinion and stick with it. I THINK THOSE PEOPLE ARE PATHETIC EXCEPT WELL NOT ALL OF THEM I MEAN IF THEY'RE ABUSED OR SOMETHING HOMINA HOMINA DON'T LOOK AT THAT PHRASE THAT I WROTE LOOK AT THIS OTHER PHRASE THAT I WROTE. You were backpedaling all over the place.
And I just think it's hilarious that someone who didn't even go on a date until she was 35 is calling ANYONE "pathetic", because, wow. Pot, kettle. I realize that anything that calls you on your douchebaggery is going to be considered "inadequate" in your eyes, because you're a douchebag, but Jesus, get some perspective here.

I dated for 20 years. Real people. Turned down three proposals because I'm picky, but that's how I ended up eventually getting married. Funny how that works.

And man, you've certainly given me perspective. I'd forgotten just how rabid and RAWR RAWR RAWR fangirls can be, especially if you poke a stick at their secret shame. As for "backpedaling," I was trying to be compassionate towards those with extenuating circumstances who can't bear to live in the real world, but you know what? Screw it. My mom survived years of physical and sexual abuse but she was strong enough to deal with it and move on and form healthy relationships with flesh and blood human beings.

I just can't respect anyone who'd rather bury their head in the metaphorical sand than try to cope. You know, I could even understand fantasizing about an actor or actress. At least they are real people. But a drawing? Wow.

And if I hurt your feelings with my opinion?

That is probably a better position to take, because the attempts to feign compassion were pretty fake. You didn't exactly sound compassionate about the girl who didn't date your brother and still isn't married because she's a pathetic coward--just like anybody in the thread who disagrees with you.

Yes, it can be very sad if someone can't relate to people--whether they fangirl anybody or not. (Not all lonely or celibate people look like fangirls.) But this level of contempt for them is about you as much as it is them. Having a husband isn't proof of your worth or strength as a person. If your abused mother formed healthy relationships with flesh and blood humand beings without having relationships with men she might still be a strong person.

Maybe anime girl actually will have a relationship one day when it's right for her. If she really has problems in that area (ones you actually might not understand or might not be as simple as they look to you because they're not your problems) maybe she'll find some outside help. It's easy to see solutions for problems you don't actually have yourself.
