The "Elf rights are human rights" or the "Ending mage oppression is part of real life praxis" people are a special breed, aren't they?

Its part of the reason why I think the vast majority of political discourse online today is merely an extension of the ship wars from my misspent youth on the internet.

People looking for a group to belong to and another group to oppose and hate USED to lead to IchiRuki shippers doxxing IchiHime shippers. or IchiHime decrying IchiRuki shippers as supportive of domestic violence and deeply immoral. Now I see the same behaviours enacted online over and over. And because it's tied to real life politics it feels more important, so no-one ever feels the need to grow out of it.

Dragon age activists seem to me to be the missing link between "My ship is so important" and "Supporting the politicians and celebrities who agree with me is so important."

ayrt

They are, aren't they. Like, I am absolutely behind you with past ship wars becoming actual RL discourse on so many levels. Some people just can't differentiate themselves from what they've experienced growing up in fandom, what they've seen in media, and how they conflate the two without the sense of reality in between.
I mean, it's all okay if you want to believe all elves/mages are representative of a RL prejudiced people, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to agree 100% of the time. The disconnect is just outrageous.
