Two things come to mind:
1. There have been a lot of things in the news involving rape lately.
2. People have been stressed in recent months, and when people are stressed, they often turn to their darker fictional likes as a cathartic way of dealing with stress.

I guess people discussing things in the news in this comm don't bother me, because I do appreciate the news chat. A lot of times this comm is the first I'll hear about certain news in the entertainment industry.

I'm not sure about the second point, but fair I suppose. It's not my cup of tea, and I'll try to be more mindful not read too much into the rape content because it does bad things to my head.
