I can't watch the anime adaptations of several manga because I dislike the art downgrade so much - generally either stuff like CLAMP manga, where the original art is so intricate and detailed that it's just not feasible to recreate in animated form, or a few things like Bleach and Eyeshield 21 where the manga art got smoother and prettier over time but the anime stuck to the 'chapter 1' style.

Yeah, CLAMP’s art is gorgeous and I don’t think I’ve seen a single anime adaptation that does them justice.

Well at first I wanted to raise a finger but... maybe CCS and its remake got the best treatment (even so with mediocre animation, but a cute art style) because they are also the most profitable, but overall... they are downgrades. Most anime are prone to being downgrades, though, there are too many frames to animate. MVs and short clips released back in the 90s weren't too bad, though.

Kubo's writing is disappointing but I can stare at his panels all day. Definitely a downgrade in the anime. Honestly, shounen anime from that era looked really bad to me.

Eyeshield was pristine from the get go, one of the most gorgeous mangas of all time. The anime was rough shit all the way through. There is no comparison, so don't try to pretending otherwise. CLAMP got messy in various titles, and didn't start off so nice in their early works at all.
I've read a lot of manga in my time, most of it CLAMP works, but you're straight up lying when you claim that Eyeshield wasn't crisp and talented as fuck.
