Yes, but to keep Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye canon with the MCU they will have to rewrite a lot of it.

Man, I'm an MCU only fan (so I have no clue what storylines Hawkeye or anyone else really has in the comics) and I hated that, too. Truly sucked.

I don't do Hawkeye I'm still pissed off about both the random Hawkeye family and the random Bruce/Natasha terrible romance thing that really didn't work for me at all. I admit I was firmly shipping Hawkeye/Black Widow back then. Don't anymore, just wanted them both to remain single.

And it's not like Ultimates Hawkeye was interesting in any way, and his family immediately got fridged!

My hope for the upcoming series is that Jeremy Renner is too self-important to appear in it much and he's mostly there to set up the adventures of Kate and Lucky.

That's my dream. Renner's Hawkeye was a huge weak link for me and the weird family reveal dashed canon Fraction Hawkeye (while being a real weird reveal in general). I'll be very pleased if it's just a handoff to Kate.

In one particular continuity (the 'ultimates' series) Clint had a family who got killed off for cheap angst. The MCU copied the family to give Clint something that would, at a distance in bad lighting, pass for a personality. That's about it, I think.

Almost all my issues with the MCU can be traced back to the handling of Ultron.

The secret family reveal is the one with the least impact going forward and yet it frustrates me that they wasted time on it instead of just having them hide at an empty safehouse.

It was like Whedon was desperate to keep Nat and Clint apart so he shoehorned in a family because the Bruce/Nat thing wouldn't be strong enough without Clint off the playing field.

And now they're trying to do a Fracion style series and unless he's been divorced (could anyone blame her?) it's not going to feel right. He's supposed to be a mess who lives in an apartment, not a dad.

You'd think they'd have looked at how The Ultimates ended and backed away slowly.

I had zero knowledge of the comics and no skin in this game re: which version of Hawkeye should be in the movie, but coming into this as a total newbie... the whole "Hawkeye has a family and a big farm" plot just came out of nowhere and felt idiotic.

IKR?! Fraction did such an amazing job, and it would have worked so well with 2012's Avengers movie, and WTF, Whedon.
Whedon fucked everything up in AoU. Hawkeye, Black Widow, Cap, Bruce...it felt like they scrubbed everything and started over. It sucked.

i don't mind it but it makes no sense for there not to have been even a hint of it in Avengers 1. Clint should have at least made a surreptitious mention of it to Nat, either as a threat from Loki, or concern after Clint was de-loki'd.


anyway, if this new series doesn't at least have some jeolousy from clint's daughter, what even is the point?
