138. I understand that people are offended by it. I understand that they have the right to be offended by it. However, I do think Korea should lighten up as well. As a Korean, I find the whole Korea vs Japan shitstorm tiring. Little kids are drawing racist and nationalistic pictures for school and some parents are beating their children for liking Japanese products (games, anime, whatnot). So what if a series is stereotyping our nation? Hell, it's stereotyping everyone.

Well, I can understand a country that was invaded by Japan being a bit offended at Japan's stereotypical portrayals of them, that's all.

Yeah, it's stereotyping everyone. That's why there are a lot of people calling it racist.

Stereotypes = bad, mmkay?

AT least if you're going to stereotype every single nation, come up with something new we all haven't seen fifteen billion times. (China is superstitious? America likes to eat? France is a coward? YOU DON'T SAY! Totally new and fresh and not at all played out.)

I don't think you can excuse Japan's portrayal of Korea with, "They stereotype everyone!" For one thing, historical context matters. There is a lot of emotional baggage considering Japan's past history of dominance/imperialism over Korea, and it's not something that's easily brushed off by virtue of Hetalia being a parody. The same can't be said for Japan and, say, the UK. Japan has never invaded the UK. It's unreasonable to think we can look at these stereotypes within a vacuum. Japan parodying France is different from Japan parodying South Korea.

However, I will say that it bugs me more that Hetalia makes fun of all countries EXCEPT for Japan. C'mon, that's weak... :P

(Granted, Japan parodies China as well, and there's bad blood between those two nations too (e.g. Rape of Nanking)...)
