I think.
I'm not upset over the secret but I think I'd kinda like a definition from the OP on how we're so rabid.
Rabid in the sense that we are excitable, squeeing, flailing too much?
I won't apologize for being vocally ecstatic that what was originally regarded as a crack pairing in the early days has actually turned into a legitimate couple over the years, but there's plenty of fans who don't over-employ the caps lock key all the time if that's the problem.
Or is there a darker side to which I'm oblivious beyond some rare wanky moments? The only thing I can think of is the odd but rare A/R vs. K/L flare ups because some people just can't handle the idea that some people find certain pairings/characters that aren't theirs to be more satisfying (and if that's what's upsetting anyone, I'd argue that this is hardly representative of either pairing's fans as a whole).

I was put off the Sheppard/Teyla ship in Stargate Atlantis by the actions of one single person when I used to be one of the people who didn't care if Sheppard ultimately ended up with Teyla or ended up with Weir.
She basically constantly bashed not only the character of Weir, but also the actress who played Weir. I've met Torri Higginson so I wasn't impressed
Somehow I think the OPs definition of batshit will change if she ever ventures into Dr Who fandom (Whodom?)
I quite like Adama/Roslin myself, though I also liked her interactions with Tom Zarak (sp?), not as much as with Adama though

I'm just wondering what the context of rabid is in this case, because the past 4 years I've spent 'shipping A/R and hanging out in the BSG fandom have been the most fun I've had in any fandom. I'm a bit boggled that the A/R fans of all things is what killed a fandom for her/him, because from my POV, it's mostly fangirly squee and very little drama. The squee would be a silly thing to get cranky over, imo, but to each their own.
Then again I got into this show after two fandoms that wanked and whined much harder than any part of BSG on a bad day, so my idea of whiny and wanky might be different than the OP's if wank is to blame. And I do know a few early A/R fans who bowed out after getting irritated with newbies who rushed in after Res. Ship II and Unfinished Business. Can't win 'em all, I guess.
RE: Doctor Who...nearly everything I know about it comes from Fandom Wank because they show up on there so much. I'd like to check out the show, but if I do, I don't think I'll be playing in that fandom sandbox just from watching how much drama goes on within it. Yeesh! O_o
Roslin and Zarek do have an interesting dynamic, I agree, though my own interest in it stops before shipping it (mostly because I can't get past some of his actions). I love the political rivalry and their interactions on New Caprica, however, and will read a fic here and there if I like the author well enough. :)
