I'm not trying to start a ship war or be vehement or anything- I'm genuinely curious. I only just saw it all, and have very little experience with the fandom.

I do think watching it all at once must have given me a different view... For me, the show seemed to clearly be setting up Kataang with some very iconic moments- she's the first one he sees out of the iceberg, she's the only one who can get him out of the Avatar state, she saves his life.

And I didn't see Katara as particularly motherly towards Aang (or at least not any more than the way she treated anyone else). They both have a lot of awkward blushing moments around each other, she gets jealous over him, there's the cave of two lovers moment.

I'm totally fine with non-canon ships. I'm just confused over the fact that there's such a huge percentage of Zutara fans, when I had trouble seeing it when I watched the show.

All of those are valid points actually, and I know you aren't trying to start a ship war, I'm just trying to show you how we see things. we liken Aang seeing Katara first upon coming out of the iceberg as a baby duck imprinting on its mother

Honestly, at the end of it. We want to see Katara with someone who's firm and mature, maybe older. Someone on more her emotional level. We see that in Zuko more than Aang. Plus we like the whole, fire and water dynamic, the fact they both have lost mother issues, and the fact that both are very firey very passionate individuals as well. While Aang would say "How high" if Katara asked him to jump, Zuko would fight her right back.

The ship isn't an easy vanilla, "I loved you since day one" type deal. Its something that (as we see it) is a little bit more fun. Zuko was the bad boy, how can a fandom exist without the "main female lead falling for the bad boy" ship anyway.

Really? I don't care too much about all this shipping nonsense, but REALLY?

The last few episodes Zuko was acting like a chastised puppy following Katara around doing anything he could to win her favor. Including ridicule Aang over the very thing he had sought for himself only a couple of episodes before - forgiveness.

Aang however got angry with her and everyone else when they refused to even entertain other ideas for defeating the fire lord. It's not the first time he's disagreed with her.

Aang's not this sad infantile wishy washy character like you painted him any more than Zuko is a ginormous incurable prick.

THANK YOU. I'm not sure where miribai is getting the idea that Aang is some spinelness wimp that will do whatever Katara says.

Some people just can't or refuse to see Aang as anything other than some immature child who dared to love the girl everyone considers out of his league. Add to that said girl had the audacity to return his feelings.

And said girl was actually shocked and disgusted about being linked romantically to Zuko. And Zuko clearly had no interest in her in that way.

Katara in the show clearly likes Aang (at least on a friendship level, although it isn't hard to make the leap she liked him more than just a friend). She enjoys his company, seems to like his sense of humor, doesn't find him unattractive, is not shy with the physical affection towards Aang, and has this incredibly strong bond with him. She has characteristics and notions he doesn't and vice versa, she calmed him down and he helped her to lighten up, and together they made a great team for 3 seasons.

The only way to combat all of that is to make Aang this unappealing whiny child.

Aang is so much more mature than Katara. He doesn't freak out over every little thing, he doesn't lash out at people for being better than him, he steps up to his job and, at the end of the series, stops running. He doesn't freak out and threaten to kill someone when they 'betray' his, what, half an hour-long trust? (Hello, The Blue Spirit!) Aang considers what people have to say, even if it's something he doesn't want to hear (like, oh, giving up Katara - which he tried to do, lot of good it did), unlike Katara (see TSR).


Aang is, also, 13 years old by the end of the finale.

Aang is not immature, especially for his age. He's more mature than Katara, AND than Zuko, even if he's not as strong as either of them. Get used to it.
