101) Sigh. Me too. I've met great friends through LJ -- but soul mates that I can just squee my head off to on any subject? Nope. I'm just a bit too weird to have a brain twin. Now I've seen some of my friends pair off that way, but even when I'm on the inside, I'm always just a bit on the outside.

105) RPS and Chan are my big squicks -- but that said, you need to chill out. Really. Someone writing chanporn for the lulz, or even reading it, doesn't make them child molesters. It's all pretend and no one gets hurt and most people can tell the difference between fiction and reality.

129) I ship characters who never interact with each other in canon. All you have to do is take the characters and their backgrounds and imagine circumstances where they'd be together, and what would happen if they were. From my pov, it's easy to see how someone can ship Zutara. Not that I do. Katara is too young for me to ship with anyone, even if it is canon.

167) No, that was Bush's problem. He never reality checked his work. He truly believed with all his heart that what he understood what he was doing and that his ideas would work and that by just conducting his machinations in secret so no one could oppose him he could unleash some heaven on Earth. And it all turned into crap, because reality just doesn't work that way. He got everything he wanted all right, but it his vision is flawed.

Obama is a pragmatist. A smart, very perceptive, responsive pragmatist. He's spewing "hope" because right now, that's what our country needs.

Not my problem.

No one claimed it made them child molesters - you can understand that it's fantasy and still think it's wrong to fetishize children.

And you can still think it's wrong to glamorize crime, fetishize murder, make car chases look cool -- god I could go on and on.

It's pretty obvious that the people who read these things don't actually fetishize children. They fetishize the idea of children. Children become a stand in for the concept of innocence. And usually the people reading the story identify with the child -- they long to have their own innocence back.

And it's all a whole lot more complicated and less OMG HORRORS than first glance would say. So ... as someone who squicks on chan, I say, chill out.

And by "chill out" you mean "stop talking about it," I guess, since I've been completely chill about the whole thing.

No... by "Chill out" I mean recognize the problem is with you not fandom. We all have squicks. We can be open about them, but it's our job to deal with them, not everyone else's job to accommodate us.

It's funny how many people are jumping up and down to defend the child-porn-lovers. Since when was it the wrong thing to do to say 'I think child porn is disgusting'?

You do know there is such a thing as "child porn" and this isn't it, right?
