(Anonymous) 2021-02-21 12:03 am (UTC)(link)I never really play the 'evil options' though, so this is a vague memory from watching a friend who LOVES being a bad guy for HIS characters.
More to the point tho: You cannot 'blow children into bloody chunks' in Bethesda games like Skyrim and the Fallout series. I'm sure there are mods, but it is encoded into the games that children are 'unkillable'. In Skyrim, the main protagonist with the Dark Brotherhood is a kid...and you cannot kill them! Which, as much as I hate that assassins guild (and dearly love killing them all off), I cannot say I dislike that overall feature. There is a lot of death in Fallout - keeping kids (even evil things that just LOOK like kids) safe from that outcome is okay by me.
This controversy is about deliberately creating a teenaged sex slave within a rather large mod, that somehow slipped past the other creators. It is gross and terrible and the guy deserved to be drummed out. It isn't just 'animated pedo content' --- it is a fully blown storyline within the mod and is utterly gross and despicable and has no place within the game.
But trying to make comparisons between 'kids can be killed horrifically, tho' (which...isn't actually true at all) and 'so who cares about pedos making mod content cause it doesn't matter' rather shows where the disconnect to the actual problem is. Killing and raping children is bad. But only ONE of these things was made possible for a game that literally frowns on both of these things and makes moves to shit-can anything that even comes close to breaking these rules. I'm not saying Bethesda isn't problematic (cause HOO-boy are they!), but Bethesda content is not the issue here. A person creating problematic content for a Bethesda game and trying to say it should be okay is the issue.
At least it has been removed from the updated mod. I still likely won't add the mod to my own game, but the creators caught it, removed the content, axed the guy from the team, made an announcement about it and then put the mod out again with that part of the content excised and scrubbed from the mod, as it should be.
Yeah, I kinda kept tabs on this during the brouhaha over the mod breaking out.
