I agree that bashing people for not participating in fandom the way you want them to is not the way to go, and I'm someone who reads slash and fan fiction mostly with male characters. I don't know SGA, but from my experience, some works develop their male characters more than their female counterparts. A few of my favorite fandoms don't really HAVE many female characters. But this is more of the writers' making, rather than the characters', or even the fans'.

But I can say that, personally, the amount of bashing female characters face in fandoms (I was in the Gundam Wing fandom, to give you an idea) makes me feel uncomfortable. And emulating male characters while trashing female ones was a stage I went through when I was younger, and I didn't do me any favors.

While I don't want to dictate what other fan girls should or shouldn't read, I also find the fact way that most fics, slash or gen, tend to write out women from the main action has really problematic implications. Especially as the fics are written by women themselves.

I'm not saying that anyone who writes male-focused fic is a misogynist. Nor am I saying that writers go to their keyboard with a "Mwaha! I'm going to oppress my own gender!" It's just something I fret about, in between indulging in my own fandom addictions, and something I sometimes like to to talk about with other fans.

Er... well, first off, any feminist "movement" has already been coming and going in fandom since women were participating it. This is just something that people like to get meta about. Usually not to bully other fans, but because they're honestly interested or concerned. Of course you're going to get some people who seem to be more concerned with seeming self-righteous than having a conversation with someone, but that's what happens in any discussion, ever.

ESPECIALLY on the internet.

But there has to be some middle ground between attacking other fans for their preferences and silently posting feminist tropes on my blog.
