137 - Are there ANY fans of this show who understand the concept of someone loving more than one person at once? Any of them? Anywhere? Or did everyone watch a totally different show than I did?

Reasons I hate Gwen have a LOT more to do with the fact that she annoys the fuck out of me and that Rhys deserves someone a lot better than her. I'd sit through a "Gwen and Jack hook up" story arc and love it to death if it included a good scene with Rhys finding out and leaving her.

But everyone knows it's impossible to hate female characters without being a) sexist or b) an angry, bitter slash fan, right? Nobody can just NOT LIKE THEM. 9.9

It's the J/Iers who tend to throw down the twu-wuv gauntlet and deny Jack's love for the Doctor and his clear-cut longing/sexual desire for Gwen, as well as the subtext with Owen (and all the flirting with everyone and everything as soon as he gets clear of Mr. Lord High Whiney-butt.)

I still find the "Poor Rhys" claim highly spurious and suggest that if it were the other way and PC Ianto Jones had discovered Torchwood where Jack had an ambiguously flirty relationship with his sexy secretary Gwen and Ianto HAD to cheat on his partner (pick a gender) for the relationship with Jack to happen, the FANDOM WOULD BE ALL OVER IT!

Incidentally, as a die hard Gwen/Rhys fan who can't ship Jack/Gwen partly because of Rhys: yes, that alternate universe scenario would bother me if the scenario were set up as close to what's canon as it could be. For one thing, cheating weirds me out (be it canon or otherwise) and is, in fact, something I'm struggling with right now whlie plotting out a fic for one of my favourite pairings in an extremely obscure fandom.

Just because the loudest of the crazy fanbrats are only in it for TEH UBER AWESOME GAY SECKS and would be all for Ianto cheating on his "Rhys" doesn't mean all J/I fans are.

Pardon me while I finish my thought...

For one thing, cheating weirds me out (be it canon or otherwise) and is, in fact, something I'm struggling with right now whlie plotting out a fic for one of my favourite pairings in an extremely obscure fandom.

For another thing, if Ianto's significant were as devoted and sweet as Rhys is? I'd totally hate to see him/her hurt, just like I'd hate to see Rhys hurt.

Well I guess it's a noble sentiment, but to me the bottom line is JACK! Omnisexual, polyamorous, 51st Century Pheremone spewing, shagging anything if it's gorgeous enough JACK! The one who told Gwen her boyfriend was an idiot and she didn't defend him at all. Jack who you keep telling me can love many people and doesn't believe in quaint little categories.

Even post-Doctor, do you realy think Jack has spent the past 100 years on earth respecting other people's relationships ALL THE TIME?

Again, I just don't see it. He's holding back. For now. But he's still Jack. Timing is still everything.

What you see =/= what everyone else sees or what everyone else should see.

And, no, I don't think he respects other people's relationships all the time (in fact, I doubt it), but I personally can't ship Jack/Gwen partly because of Rhys and partly because I just don't see it. For me, the Gwen/Jack scenes aren't convincing. But that's my opinion, my view of canon. Everyone has their own, and that is what makes things INTERESTING.
