It's Into the Woods, lol. The show that secret 147 is referring to. Little Red Riding Hood sings this song. It's called "I Know Things Now"

That show is amazing. My favorite song is Giants in the Sky though..

Well, I am definitely going to check it out. There is singing involved, so it is somehow automatically amazing anyway.

It's a Sondheim musical from the 80s that basically takes the Grimm fairytales and spins them on their head. The first act is silly/set-up, and the second is all about REAL LIFE consequences to taking the actions that we fantasize about taking in myth/fiction/etc. It's really a stellar show. It's probably on youtube or googlevideo, too.

I know Sunday in the Park with George (which is my favorite Sondheim show) is on youtube. Sometimes I watch it by myself and cry. lol. Although, I own it. So, I should just pop in the DVD >.>

Huh. That sounds deep, actually.
I just watched a bit of Sunday in the Park...why does it make you cry? I kind of thought it was meant to be amusing. (Also, now that FOTC song has so much more meaning, and is so much less original.)

Well, Sunday in the Park with George (to me) is a story about the role of an artist in a relationship and society. The first act follows Georges Seurat (the creator of pointillism) and his obsessive relationship with art and inability to commit. The second act follows his (illegitimate) great grandson 100 years in the future (1984!) and how art has changed. It's all about schmoozing and connections - getting money.

So, the ending just has some really beautiful moments of time/space collapsing with characters from the first act coming back. idk, lol. Like there is this duet between Dot and George where he is complaining that he feels as though he can say nothing new. There is nothing left for him to create, it's all been done. And she says to him "anything you do, let it come from you; give us more to see."

It's a very transcendent, beautiful show about art, artists, and life to me. I've been a singer since I was 9, so it spoke to me personally, I guess. I always sob at the ending though. It's just beautiful =)

...There is absolutely nothing I can say to that, apart from, I have a hole where my head should be.
And possibly you should seek/already have some sort of journalistic/critical analysis career?
I'm going back to eating my sugar.

Re: 147

Haha. Well, I have a degree in music, and it's been my passion for a long time. I've actually just finished applying for law school. I want to do licensing/copyright and hopefully protect the work of composers. =)

Oh, and PS:
Sunday in the Park refers to the extremely famous painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grand Jatte" <-- spelling probably wrong. Which is the painting Georges Seurat does that establishes pointillism. FOTC was just referencing it in Fou da Fa Fa (I think that's the song you're talking about, eh?)

I just wanna piggy-back this and agree what you seem one kick-ass person. While Sunday in the Park with George isn't my personal favorite, that three page paragraph made me like it a lot better.

Best of luck with your education, man!

haha well yay! I love SITPWG. I think of it as Sondheim's reassurance to himself that art is and will always be relevant. =)
