There is a lot of Civil War revisionism going on. While only a minority owned slaves, the entire economic and political system was built around devaluing black labor and wealth, even in non-slave states. Coates "The Case For Reparations" is a good read even if you disagree with reparations because it documents how the system hindered the development of wealth for black people in America.

And the guns talk is a nod to extremist militias. Whether he's also Native American doesn't make him less wrong. Milo Y was jewish and gay, but still a nazi shill after all.

I mean, I grew up in a state that was proud to serve in the Union and invaded by the Confederacy. But,the city up the road was a notorious sundown town that people avoided up to the 1980s, and one of the last lynchings of the civil rights era was 50 miles away. So the idea that white supremacy was just a southern thing is sadly a myth.
