They Live where Nada (the central character) launches an attack on the transmitter the invading aliens are using to disguise themselves as humans, knowing that he'll be shot by the alien forces.

And then as the transmitter explodes, allowing the human race to fight back, he raises his hand out of the flames and flips off the aliens

What a fucking dumb and awesome movie

Also, in more serious examples, Sydney Carton from Tale of Two Cities and Cazaril from Curse of Chalion

I didn't like A Tale of Two Cities, but the end with Sydney Carton and the seamstress going to the guillotine made me cry.
