THIS. I liked Rey a lot in TFA, and I sincerely appreciate that JJ Abrams actively chooses to write female leads for a lot of his projects, but one thing about his leads is they tend to be written very very straight (in the literary sense not the sexual sense), to the point that imo they can sometimes be a little boring. In my opinion, TLJ took Rey, who was already a good character, and gave her more nuance and depth as a person.
