I mean, have you *watched* How To Train Your Dragon???

(Anonymous) 2021-03-11 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. And the the dragons there are either cute but still look dragon-ish, are more ugly-cute or not cute at all. And, and this is the mian point, don't sytlistically clash majorly with the rest of the character designs.
In my opinion, the dragon in this movie looks more like some cutesy version of a qilin rather than a dragon. The design is just not very good.

Considering it's a made up world, I'm ok with that.

I mean, they use escrima, which is a Phillipines martial arts weapon style, after all. Water nagas are commonly depicted as having 4 limbs, and flowing 'hair' (fins), heck even Apalala, the Buddhist Water Naga King, lives in modern day Pakistan. And Sisu appears to be *Finnish*.

It's not meant to *be* a real world location. Yes, it's quite obviously heavily influenced by Asian mythology of all types, leaning more heavily towards Chinese, but it's not *exclusively* that.

Which STILL doesn't change the fact that the design itself clashes terribly with the general design of the rest of the film.

Well, it's *Disney*, so I don't know why you're expecting so much.
