The Golden Girls is too spicy for Disney.

This is the realest proof that Wade Wilson didn't exist in any form in the MCU.

I’m still tiny bit annoyed that in the UK version of this list, Sherlock beat Doctor Who in the public vote over what to include. Say what you want about whether you do or don’t think one or both sucks but...Doctor Who is definitely way more of a culture defining thing in overall history of British TV. Not that I’m convinced Cap would be checking out our TV as much as US TV shows to be honest.

...why would they localize that list?

(Anonymous) 2021-03-12 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
We had "Skippy" on ours in Australia!

this is killing me that they believed Captain America needed to be globally well-rounded in media literacy

It was a bit of fun I suppose but a bit silly! Cap has a lot of his own country’s stuff to catch up on first, poor guy probably did nothing but watch old TV if you believe the regionalised lists.

Sherlock being on ours really dates the film as well imo. There’s not that level of goodwill toward that show anymore I expect.

Yeah, it certainly doesn't feel like a long-standing aspect of pop culture to invest in learning about

(Anonymous) 2021-03-12 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Why Disco over all other forms of music??? Did it have some secret lasting impact that I don't know about today?

(Anonymous) 2021-03-12 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, the "Disco Sucks!" meme.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-12 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, yes.

[personal profile] hey_hey_hey 2021-03-12 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-12 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
No, no. It clearly says "Pisco."

(Anonymous) 2021-03-12 12:37 am (UTC)(link)

A straight man wrote the list, I would guess.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-12 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
See also the above comment 'Wade Wilson is not part of the MCU'. XD

wow Steve's handwriting looks like a teenager's.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-12 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, this is what my 40-something handwriting looks like?

It's fine for a *modern* adult. I have serious trouble believing someone who learned to write when Cap did would write like that, though. He'd have learned some kind of cursive - and my sense is that someone of that generation who had bad handwriting and wanted to make sure their notes stayed legible would write in all caps.

My handwriting is even worse because I rarely write anything by hand anymore.

fair warning: I've only seen one MCU movie and that was Black Panther, but...

if this is a list of pop culture things Steve needs to catch up on? I understand 90% of the list but what is "Troubleman?" is that an in-universe reference? I have never heard of it and I'm OLD. Star Wars, disco, Nirvana? yes. but what is that last one? help an old fart out.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-12 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's a blaxploitation film.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trouble_Man_(film)

(Anonymous) 2021-03-12 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's an in-movie reference - Sam Wilson (the Falcon) sees the list and tells Steve that he should check out Trouble Man, an album by Marvin Gaye. It was the soundtrack to a blaxploitation film of the same name, but Sam is specific that he means the album not the movie. Later on, he plays the album to Steve while Steve is in hospital.
