LOL, obviously we are CONCERN TROLLS because we don't think telling people they're sexist is serious busniess! Because on the internet, if you don't agree with me, YOU ARE TROLL.

Well, no. You're being called concen trolls because you're engaging in the exact same behaviour (without even realising it) that activists of every kind have had used against them since the year dot.

"Don't be so angry - you'll just alienate people."

"Okay, it might be sexist/racist/ableist/etc, but this isn't the place for having that discussion." (Chorus taken up and repeated by people in every single other space which has ever existed, including the ones activists build themselves.)

"You're doing activism wrong because you're not doing it the way I think it should be done."

"Why are you wasting your time on [x], when you could be doing the far more laudible [y]."

If you aren't an activist or versed in activist theory, then these arguments feel perfectly reasonable. They aren't inherently lacking in logic. But to those who regularly speak up against discrimination (not just on the Internet, but in any public or semi-public space) they soon become familiar old enemies.

They are all silencing tactics, usually used as an instinctive defense of the status quo. The message they send purports to be "I'm interested, but concerned that you are not using the most effective means to your ends" but always actually turns out to actually be "Shut up."

If it's taken up by everyone ever, maybe it's true. Honestly, how can you take anything on the internet seriously?

I think maybe you're just butthurt. I mean, if I wanted to tell you to shut up, I'd do so. Because thanks to internet anonymity, I can be a cock, and not worry about the consequences.
