It's possible they don't want to be - or be seen as - culturally appropriative.

You kinda just have to let the Legacies writers obey the inscrutable exhortations of their souls

Otherwise it wouldn't be legacies

Of course, because if they include the mythology of Brown People (nebulous umbrella there) they get jumped on by hundreds of people on Twitter about Cultural Appropriation and then people demand they take random appropriate POC onto the team so it's Allowed.

I can see why they'd stick to Eurocentric shit. It's less expensive and being a little bit boring is better than being vilified for including a Tokoloshe or Bunyip or whatever else.

Most people don't know anything about other mythologies, lbr. And that's ANY mythologies, like you barely see celtic or germanic legends/myths (that aren't directly from brothers grimm or werewolves/vamps) on these shows either. At BEST people will go Norse, and then they'll use the four they know: Loki, Odin, Thor, MAYBE Freya because they think she's a Scandinavian Aphrodite.

Unlike the bitter comments above, I doubt it has to do with cultural appropriation because a) the CW doesn't give fuck b) nobody gives a fuck about the CW and c) the CW appropriates hoodoo all the damn time.

+1

This is the answer. The funniest part is that even when they adapt Nose myths they still seem to get it all wrong most of the time, Thor+Loki are often depicted as brothers when in the myths Odin+Loki are the sworn/blood brothers.

And I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen Celtic myths used at all.

This is honestly why I'm sticking with American Gods even though I find it overly complicated at times. Atleast I'm getting other mythologies and religions done up really cool.
