I need some advice

(Anonymous) 2021-03-13 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I stupidly claimed a fic prompt in an event and it's due in a couple of days. I have never been great at these and gave up doing them years ago, but I liked the prompt and I actually wrote part of the story before I submitted the claim. Well, almost immediately I completely lost steam. Now the thought of it is stressing me out and I can't continue it. I think it's only fair that I give up my claim now, so that the requester isn't stuck expecting something and waiting for it, but I'm anxious about doing that. I don't want them to come back and say they can extend the deadline, that will just make it easier for me to procrastinate.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ???

In this instance, a small white lie would suit. Just say that a 'real life' issue has come up and you won't be able to finish the fic on time, and you're very sorry. You don't need to elaborate or give details.

Maybe once the thing is over and done, you can try finishing it stress-free.

Yeah I worked up the nerve after posting this and basically just said there was some stressful stuff. Which is not a lie. The fic was stressful! Lol...and they said if I write it afterwards they can still include it in the collection.
