(Anonymous) 2021-03-23 08:10 am (UTC)(link)Thank you! This is indeed a situation I've talked about here before due to it taking place in a fandom space. The person with the race kink was allowed to go on for so long due to us being generally accepting of kinks (and also us being doormats), and it maybe tangentially relating to the lore of our fandom. The trans fetishism was also allowed to persist too due to the same person saying that they were leftist, but we were trans and leftist too and we all got dysphoric/pissed when their transheadcanons always seemed to focus on feminizing trans male character bodies, identities, and trans suffering as porn.
Porn with trans characters is allowed to exist (I'm trans! I write it!), and it's hard for me to specifically spell out how a line was crossed in terms of an interest in representation and fetishizing... but you know it when you see it. And people were getting hurt by it.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-24 01:16 am (UTC)(link)You probably won't see this, OP, but I definitely understand the "you know it when you see it" feeling. I'm not trans, but I am a POC, and race kink to me always feels like it toes/rides a similar kind of line, which is why I don't like reading it/any time I open some smut or something and there's almost this...laser focus, exoticism -- like ugh. It feels gross, and it might be hard to see or understand from the outside, but you can always recognize it. Nope.
The scene that always comes to mind is from Chewing Gum (UK show) where the MC goes out on a date with a guy who clearly has...issues with race to say the least, and he is constantly fetishizing her. And I often find that to be the issue. IRL, in fic -- is this happening because I/x character is whoever/whatever/wherever etc
Or is this happening because this is the way this person is? There's an erasing of certain aspects (if not all, depending on the situation) of the person's or character's humanity.
