In Western movies when people are wearing uniforms, like a WW2 movie, they'll put in some work to differentiate the actors, like with different hair and accents (you always have the guy from Noo Yawk and the suthuhnuh).

Yeah, that's the thing for me that helps - I mostly can tell characters apart based on their voices. With Chinese dramas, I'm not really familiar enough with the language to really notice differences in accents (of which there are not a huge variety anyway because everything is dubbed over by mostly different VAs than the actual actors) so it's especially difficult.
